Where Does God Dwell?
By David Fryer
God said to Moses, "and let them make me a sanctuary that I may dwell among them.." and again, "...I will dwell among the children of Israel, and ... be their God." Ex.25:8,9. 29:45. Many years ago God dwelt in that tabernacle, but is He really interested in buildings?
God loves His children and has so worked a work in Christ that eventually He can dwell among temples of a different kind.
Stephen said, "God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that He is Lord of Heaven and Earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands", Acts 17:24, and Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 3, "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?"
The Body of Christ is also an holy temple: "For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit." Eph.2:18-22.
Paul's prayer for the individual member is this: "For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, ....That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith;" Eph.3:14-17.
Let us live knowing Christ in our hearts, and love knowing God's love among us.
