The Good Samaritan

By David Fryer

In Luke 10:25-37 a Lawyer wanting to justify himself, asked the Saviour "Who is my neighbour?"

The Lord told the parable of the Good Samaritan, the one who, seeing the plight of the Jew, "came where he was" and "had compassion on him." v.33.

We note that the Priest and the Levite had their hearts hardened against one of their own people, an experience The Lord was appreciating.

Our own condition was much like that of the Jew, we had no power for our restoration, neither love nor relief for redemption yet the Scriptures tell of the balm of Gilead:

"For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. " Roms.5:6.

As sinners saved by grace we are those who rejoice in the fact that our Good Samaritan "came to where we were":

"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who .... made himself of no reputation, and ... was made in the likeness of men: ... and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross." Phil. 2:5-8.

Let this mind be in each of us, this mind which sees the needs of others and acts in love and kindness. Titus 3:3-8.
